Low Voltage Electrician - Illinois Statewide

Mercury Z is seeking experienced traveling low-voltage electricians and data-center technicians for project assignments throughout Illinois.

Qualified candidates will have recent hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Structured cabling
• Copper installation and termination
• Fiber installation or termination
• Data-center infrastructure
• Racks and cabinets
• Cable pathways
• Testing and troubleshooting
• Access control or related low-voltage systems

Candidates must be willing to travel to project sites across Illinois. The specific project location and assignment terms will be disclosed before the candidate accepts an assignment.

Typical Responsibilities

Assignment responsibilities may include:

• Install, route, dress, label, and terminate Cat6 and Cat6A cabling.
• Install and terminate fiber-optic cabling when required.
• Pull cable through conduit, cable tray, basket tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, and overhead pathways.
• Terminate cable at patch panels, jacks, racks, cabinets, and equipment.
• Build out and dress server racks, network cabinets, MDFs, and IDFs.
• Install cable supports and low-voltage pathways.
• Test copper and fiber installations for continuity and performance.
• Use cable testers, tone generators, fiber testers, Fluke equipment, OTDRs, or other project-required testing equipment.
• Read low-voltage drawings, floor plans, rack elevations, cable schedules, and labeling standards.
• Troubleshoot damaged or failed communication circuits.
• Maintain proper bend radius, separation, grounding, labeling, and cable-management requirements.
• Maintain accurate test results and as-built documentation.
• Follow project safety, quality, cleanliness, and change-control procedures.
• Work safely from ladders and lifts and in overhead or raised-floor environments when required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Recent low-voltage, structured-cabling, fiber, telecom, or comparable commercial installation experience
• Hands-on experience installing or terminating copper cabling
• Ability to read and follow low-voltage drawings or cable schedules
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout Illinois
• Reliable attendance, communication, and jobsite conduct
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
• Ability to meet assignment-specific safety and physical requirements
• Ability to satisfy any credential requirement applicable to the assigned scope and project location

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred experience may include:

• Data-center or mission-critical construction
• Cat6 and Cat6A installation
• Copper certification testing
• Fiber installation or termination
• Fluke DSX or Versiv
• OTDR testing
• Fusion splicing
• Server racks and network cabinets
• Cable tray, basket tray, ladder rack, and J-hooks
• MDF and IDF buildouts
• Access control
• CCTV
• Fire alarm
• BAS or controls
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• BICSI
• FOA
• Manufacturer certifications
• Crew-lead experience

Candidates are not expected to possess every preferred qualification. Applicants will be evaluated against the requirements of each assignment.

Compensation

• $40 per hour
• 100–125 per day in per diem for each day worked, depending on assignment

Final compensation and per diem terms will be confirmed before the candidate accepts an assignment.
